It takes discipline to be a
free spirit.

Gabrielle Roth

from hurry…

My free-spirited nature has been my defining characteristic, always. Discipline? Not so much. Growing up, I was always “busy.” Busy playing competitive sports, busy as President of my high school class. Busy working multiple jobs and being a social butterfly. This continued well into my twenties, and the hustle culture that is our modern workforce brought my busyness to an entirely new level.

Hurry became my way, and while I connected with a lot of the stuff I was doing, I was completely disconnected from my being. In hindsight, I would hide in my doing, at times, as a distraction from facing aspects of my being that I didn’t love. I was burnt out, exhausted and felt lost. And then, I found yoga.

For the first time in my life, I experienced an activity that was not only not competitive, but rooted in anti-competition. A practice that calmed me down, while at the same time, energized me. An experience that quieted my mind and helped me gain deep appreciation for my body. It was a “workout” that inspired me to work… in. While our western world sees yoga as a physical exercise, it is so much more. The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj, meaning “to unite”. The practice aims to create union between body, mind and soul.

…to unhurry.

My journey into the world of yoga and mindfulness, among other philosophies and personal development processes (i.e life coaching) brought about a whole new way to move through the world. A more intentional, grounded and slower way. These slow growth practices, tools and experiences helped me find a level of clarity and connection with myself and my life that simply did not exist for me before.

They’ve helped me feel whole in who I am, outside of what I do. I learned how to live from the inside out and how to come back to myself when the outside world pulls me away. I actively choose to unhurry because I have found such magic in the here and now. But sometimes, the struggle to keep this centering in our always-on, over-connected, face-paced and competitive world…is real!

This dance between two worlds over the past decade is what led me to creating The Unhurry. It is my greatest belief in life that if we can all slow down and reconnect with ourselves each day, we can find and hone the clarity, and courage, to live in our light and inspire others to do the same.

I am beyond excited to guide girls and women in creating the space in their minds, hearts and life to discover themselves, develop the courage to live fully, and most importantly… to enjoy the ride!
